HOW TO READ THIS BLOG

This isn't a typical blog. Some time ago, I read the exhaustive correspondence of William and Henry James for a book, W^m & H'ry, that has now been published by the University of Iowa Press. I've presented here some raw quotes from the letters, sometimes offering a bit of context. I started with the earliest letters and moved through the correspondence chronologically. Sometimes, the quotes are "quotable" snippets on art, philosophy, or literature, other times the quotes offer humorous illustration of the brothers' sometimes antagonistic but always loving relationship. Because this is a blog, the most recent quotes appear at the top of the page -- in other words, they read in reverse order. The best way to read the blog, therefore, is to scroll down and read up.
