Wm on the upcoming Emerson centenary:

"I have unluckily pledged myself to give a 20 minute address at Concord on Emerson's Centenary the 25th.  Although I have been reading him lately consecutively with on the whole and enhanced opinion of his powers, my speech doesn't shape itself, & I wish to Heaven that I were out of it altogether...'Emerson Hall' the home of our Philosophical department seems to be financially secured, and work will properly begin.  Duveneck's statue will probably look well in its vestibule."
