H'ry's long upcoming trip to the United States for The American Scene is a chance to get away from work (or not):
"It's so long -- beyond all counting -- since production has been interrupted with me at all (save by some bout of illness) that I've grown to regard such a vision as a kind of monstrosity of extravagance....Moreover, it comes over me strongly that I shall go quite melancholy mad if, during any such period, I don't manage, to some degree or other, to relapse into work; so necessary is that consciousness to my common from day-to-day bienĂȘtre. A quiet corner somewhere, (only not in Cambridge or Boston!) is all I shall require for that indispensable sanitation."
