H'ry reveals his hope for the four initial copies that were made of Sister Alice's semi-scandalous diary:

"What I should LIKE to do en temps et lieu would be to edit the volume with a few eliminations of text & dissimulations of names, give it to the world & then carefully burn with fire our own 4 copies."

They never did burn them -- and a few years ago I held W^m's copy at the Houghton library at Harvard.
