H'ry to Wm, Jan. 26, 1893. Age: 51

Wm can't obey H'ry's warning to stay away from Violet Paget (he eventually cut her off, but later asked H'ry for a copy of her book so he could continue teaching her essays):

"I had an agreeable lunch (bad grub & cold room) with V.P. who is a fiery particle, and a queer Miss Thompson who was with her.  My admiration of her book was of the points rather than of the whole surface.  Bully sentences; though 'soundness of tissue' on the whole may not have been quite satisfactory."

In a later letter, Wm claims of Paget: "She has the temperament of genius as few have it.  But how rare is effective genius!"
Sargent once again, this time of "Miss Thompson,"
